>>> a reading from the act of the apostles.

After paul and barnabas had proclaimed the good news to that city and made a considerable number of disciples they returned to lystra and to iconium and to antioch.

They strengthened the spirits of the disciples and exhorted them to persevere in the faith, saying "it is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of god."

They appointed elders for them in each church and with prayer and fasting, commended them to the lord in whom they had put their faith.

Then they traveled through pisidia and reached pamphylia.

After proclaiming the word at perga they went down to attalia.

From there they sailed to antioch where they had been commended to the grace of god for the work they had now accomplished.

And when they arrived, they called the church together and reported what god had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.

The word of the lord.

>> l/c.

I will praise your name for ever, my king and my god.

>> r: i will praise your name for ever, my king and my god.

The lord is gracious and merciful slow to anger and of great kindness.

The lord is good to all and compassionate toward all his works.

>> r: i will praise your name for ever, my king and my god.

Let all your works give you thanks, o lord and let your faithful ones bless you.

Let them discourse of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might.

>> r: i will praise your name for ever, my king and my god.

Let them make known your might to the children of adam and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

Your kingdom is a kingdom for all ages and your dominion endures through all generations.

>> r: i will praise your name for ever, my king and my god.

A reading from the book of revelation then i, john, saw a new heaven and a new earth.

The former heaven and the former earth had passed away and the sea was no more.

I also saw the holy city, a new jerusalem coming down out of heaven from god prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

I heard a loud voice from the throne saying "behold, god's dwelling is with the human race.

He will dwell with them and they will be his people and god himself will always be with them as their god.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain for the old order has passed away."

The one who sat on the throne said "behold, i make all things new."

The word of the lord >> priest: thanks be to god.

>> priest: alleluia, alleluia >> l/c: i give you a new commandment, says the lord: love one another as i have loved you.

>> priest: alleluia, alleluia >> priest: the lord be with you.

>> l/c: and with your spirit.

>> priest: a reading from the holy gospel according to john.

>> priest: glory to you, o lord.

>> priest: when judas had left them, jesus said "now is the son of man glorified, and god is glorified in him.

If god is glorified in him god will also glorify him in himself and god will glorify him at once.

My children, i will be with you only a little while longer.

I give you a new commandment: love one another.

As i have loved you, so you also should love one another.

This is how all will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another."

>> priest: the gospel of the lord.

>> l/c: praise to you, lord jesus christ >>> so my friends as we continue this wonderful easter season, the season had a that we continue to hear the voice of easter, the voice of god's love, god's rehe demtive activity in our lives, the voice of god we proclaim christ has risen in so many different ways, and the voice of god that continues to remind us that god has the last word and how that goodness, the word continues to teach us of who we are as resurrection people, because of our baptism.

So the readings this morning think about the goodness of dreamers in our lives, people who have a real goodness and touch it with reality of life each and everyday.

People who delight in goodness, but also live a sense of hopefulness in the face of different challenges or missteps in their own lives.

So we think of that dreamers as people who have a real openness to the possibilities of life, and that becomes a wonderful attitude, a wonderful positive approach to life in all of its goodness, and all of its challenges.

You think of dreamers.

We think about a son called to dream the impossible dream, to fight the unbearable foe, to bear with unbearable sorrow to run where the brave dare not go.

Those wonderful words of don q ixote.

Pure dreams, and possibilities and dreamers as we know them in our present as well as musicals or in our history are people who again hold out great possibilities of a better, if not perfect world.

We think of martin luther king, we think of rosa parks.

We think of saint maria -- mother teresa, we think of so many people in our christian catholic tradition, as well as in our communities of life, great dreamers.

And so it is john writing in the book of revelation, a real sense of that dreaming of keeping hope alive, of goodness of possibilities as again on exile on the island of pat moss, writing the book to the persecuted christian community and speaking of a new heaven and a new earth, keeping that wonderful vision alive for them that god is really in charge.

God has the last word, god is working in the midst of difficulties and persecutions, and it's interesting that john's vision of his dreaming is one that is talked about and explains that vision in terms of the problems that will be overcome.

Problems like our sadness, our weeping, our mourning, our death, our pain, our suffering, so oftentimes become focal points in our lives, but in the midst of that, to hold on to a vision of god's activity and god's grace, and god's goodness to always be about possibilities and recreating the heavens and the earth.

It's john in the book of revelation who really reassures us of the lord's presence in all of creation in our everyday lives, and that we are called as the baptized, as resurrection people to cooperate with god to bring about this new earth, to bring about the possibilities of the kind of life and goodness that the lord has created but also keeps before us and to know that with god's grace and goodness, that everything is a possibility.

So we're called to imagine, and to hope for, and to learn of what effect that kind of vision and those kind of dreams have in our lives as people of faith and how we create more love, more unity in all creation among all people.

So that we are cooperating with god's goodness.

So the gospel this morning we are again at the last supper and at that last supper that jesus had washed the feet of his disciples, that judd as iscariot had left to betray him, and peter who had denied him at the table and the lord presented this new dream, new possibility buildings a new definition for all of us.

When he said, i give you a new commandment that you love one another as i have loved you, and it's interesting to remember that when jesus gave us that commandment of love that it's not a task for us to accomplish, but when we cooperate with god's love, and when we are sharers in bringing that love to this world it's a response to the love that we receive.

It's that empowerment the lord gives us and out of lord's pure perfect love for all of us that we are empowered to live that love, to allow that love to form us in every part of our being so bring that goodness, and jesus love for the fullness of life in a world that we live.

To be people who live the attitude of possibilities, no matter what challenges, no matter what disabilities, no matter what hardships that may be real difficult things in our lives is that we can still live with people -- as people of hope, because we live in the very power and the presence of our lord.

And so we remember that voice of easter, that love defines us, who we are as a christian people, and it is love, god's love that triumph over hatred and forgiveness try ufnlgt and over death.

And we continue to listen to the message of the lord's love for us and our response is that we grow in loving one another and defining us as who we are.

>> i believe in one lord, lord jesus christ, god from god, light from light, true good from true god, god not made, substantial with the father, through him all things were made, for us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scripture, rose to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe the holy spirit the giver of life, who proceeds from the father and the son, who has glorified and has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the life of the world to come.

>> amen.
