DHS chief says migrants will not be sent to Florida

Acting U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan says the Trump administration does not plan to send migrants to Florida after reports of such a proposal caused a stir among local and state officials last week.

When asked if Florida was still being considered, McAleenan told CBS News' Face the Nation "No.

We're using the southwest border sectors for additional capacity." Hundreds of detainees from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities in Texas and elsewhere were being flown to San Diego for processing beginning on Friday, the agency said.

Border officials had said they are developing plans to fly potentially thousands of migrant families to other places away from the southern U.S. border with Mexico.
