Londoners pity resigned UK prime minister Theresa May

ROUGH CUT.

NO REPORTER NARRATION.

Londoners reacted to Prime Minister Theresa May's resignation on Friday (May 24), after her emotional statement to the public.

May began to cry as she delivered the final sentence of her resignation speech outside No.10 Downing Street.

She said she would quit, triggering a contest that will bring a new leader to power who is likely to push for a more decisive Brexit divorce deal.

May set out a timetable for her departure: she will resign as Conservative Party leader on June 7 with a leadership contest in the following week.

In an emotional speech, the Prime Minister said it was now clear to her that it was in the best interests of the country for a new prime minister to lead efforts to deliver Brexit.
