It was an emotional but exciting day for one evansville boy, who got the surprise of a lifetime.

44news' noah alatza was at the baseball diamond sunday and captured this heartwarming homecoming.

"that was probably one of my top moments."

A cherished homecoming for one evansville family.

Jeremiah nurrenbern has been deployed for over nine months as a maintenance mechanic with the u.s. army, working in and around poland.

He says he's missed his son elijah's first hockey game, little league world series and many other events with his daughter as well.

"amazin?

Social media and camera phones just does not do justice, to see him in person and hug him and everything."

A simple homecoming, and a simple hug from his son is all that he needed.

On this memorial day weekend, one family has something special to cherish for a lifetime.

They call kentucky the bluegrass state because of the bluegrass that early settlers found growing there.

But our entertainment insider says that the musical heritage of the state defines it as well.

Ie discovered an event guaranteed to get your boots stomping!?bluegrass on the bank?

Is a monthly series that showcases a variety of bluegrass bands on the first and third tuesday of each month, running through september at owensboro riverfront.

So when it opened last week, we went inside the community to find out why this genre of music still touches so many, young and old alike.

Gretchin: why do you like bluegrass?

Well, i grew up with it.

My daddy like it, and the sounds of mandolin...my papaw played the banjo, my uncle played the fiddle, it's just in me and when you feel it, just picks you up.

It's got a pretty good ring to it, it's easy to listen to.

Gretchin: sounds like home?

Yeah, pretty much.

Bluegrass music just kind of takes you home.

Old faith and values, what this country was founded on, and it just kind of hits you where you live at.

All the music seems like it started from old country and bluegrass music so that's why i like it; takes you back to your roots.

I just think it's really good!

I like it because of the harmonica, the sound of it,it's local, i love kentucky.

Good, wholesome music, i love the fiddle, that's my favorite.

It's just good kentucky roots, it's all about kentucky.

I just like the sound of it, i think it sounds great, all the instruments, i love string instruments, so i think it's great.

I love bluegrass, i love the sound of it, i love that it brings people together it kind of a timeless music.

I mean, it never goes away, it never gets old, it something that everybody can enjoy.and whether youe young or youe old, i mean there little two year olds out here dancing here on the dance floor, and then there older people posted up all around the perimeter watching the bands.that what i love about it, it just really brings all generations together and everybody can enjoy it.

My mom brought me out to these events, and it just kind of reminds me of childhood.

I feel like, whenever i started, i was about in 3rd grade, so when i heard randy play, i was like, "wow.

The sound.

It just goes good together all the instruments together, it really fits."

So when i heard it, i'm like i have to try this out!

So why do you think that bluegrass is coming back?

Honestly i think it's a good tradition, it's good for family, it's good for friends, it's fun to be out here it's a beautiful setting, it's a good time, very relaxing.

It's just something different, we enjoy it.

Gretchin: now, give me my mic back.
