NYPD Rescue Woman Trapped Under Capsized Boat Off Long Island
An NYPD Special Ops unit rescued a total of six people after the 30-foot boat they were in capsized near Execution Rock in Long Island Sound on June 9.
The Air Sea Rescue helicopter transported divers to the scene, and they were informed that one woman was trapped under the vessel in an air pocket.
Det Brian Mullen and his partner, Officer James Roche, swam under the boat, and saw that the woman’s foot was stuck behind cushions and fishing gear.
“I grab the foot and the foot moved.
I’m like that’s a great sign,” Mullen told CBS.
“I slowly put my hand up and I felt the woman’s hand and she gave me a reassuring squeeze to my hand, so I knew she wasn’t panicking and she was alive.” According to the NYPD.
Mullen “submerged her through the hatch where Police Officer Roche grabbed her legs and hands, subsequently swimming her to safety.” Once she was removed from the boat, the woman was helped onto an FDNY Marine 4 vessel, and brought to a dock in Sands Point.
She and the other passengers were then taken to North Shore University Hospital.
