(SOUNDBITE)(English) FORMER U.S. VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN, SAYING: "He embraces dictators like Kim Jong Un..." (SOUNDBITE)(English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, SAYING: "Biden, sleepy Joe... sleepy Joe." President Donald Trump and former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden - potential rivals in the 2020 presidential race-on Tuesday brought their running war of words to dueling campaign events in the crucial Midwest state of Iowa….

BIDEN SOT Their appearance in the state offer voters an early glimpse at a potential general election matchup between the current Democratic front-runner and Trump, seeking a second four-year term.

Biden ramped up his attacks on Trump in withering terms..

BIDEN SOT In the farm state, Trump toured a plant in Iowa to tout his administration's recent approval of the expanded use of corn-based ethanol in gasoline, a move applauded by Iowa farmers.

It's also a possible vulnerable point for Biden…who in 2014 pushed to cut the amount of ethanol in the nation's fuel supply.

A recent poll shows Biden still leads the Democratic pack of presidential contenders among Iowa voters.

Biden also laid out his plan to address raging U.S. tariff tensions with China.

Iowa farmers have been among the hardest hit by President Trump's trade war.

With an eye on 2020, the Trump administration last month unveiled a $16 billion farm aid package to help offset the industry's losses.

Biden and Trump will be competing for the same white, working-class voters in Iowa and elsewhere who helped Trump win the 2016 election.
