US World Cup women 'ready to take on anything'

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The U.S. women's soccer team is ready to return to the field, veteran forward Carli Lloyd said on Friday, as they seek to build on the momentum of their historic win over Thailand in the opening game of the competition.

The title holders beat their opponents 13-0 in their game on June 11 -- the widest margin of victory in FIFA World Cup history.

With two days still to go until their game against Chile on Sunday (June 16), Lloyd told a news conference to the west of Paris that the wait could be frustrating.

"I would actually like to play tomorrow, I think all of us would," she said.

Team-mate Mallory Pugh said it was an honour to be playing alongside her childhood idols including Lloyd, who scored three goals in the 2014 World Cup final win against Japan.

The U.S. are the most successful team in women's soccer.

They have won three World Cups since the tournament began in 1991, four Olympic golds in the last six Games and have topped the FIFA rankings every year but one over the last 11 years.
