People who engaged with Ebola victims gets vaccines

ROUGH CUT.

NO REPORTER NARRATION.

World Health Organization (WHO) and Uganda health officials on Sunday (June 16) began distributing vaccinations to people who may have come into contact with the relatives of two people who died of Ebola last week, including a 3-year-old boy confirmed to be suffering from the disease, the Uganda health official said.

The cases marked the first time the virus has crossed an international border since the current outbreak began in Congo last August.

A World Health Organization panel decided on Friday (June 14) not to declare an international emergency over Congo's Ebola outbreak despite its spread to Uganda, concluding such a declaration could cause too much economic harm.

Congo's epidemic is the second worst ever, with 2,108 cases of Ebola and 1,411 deaths since last August.

The three cases recorded in Uganda this week were all in people who had arrived from the DRC.
