Dad of Britain's tiniest baby proposes to mum
The father of Britain's tiniest baby born for 20 years has celebrated his miracle daughter's first birthday - by getting down on one knee and proposing to her mum.
Kym Brown, 25, and Ryan Evans, 26, were told to expect the worst when little Isabella was born at just 24 weeks on June 14 last year, weighing less than a pound in weight.
Isabella was so tiny that her hands were smaller than 1p coins.
But she defied the odds and her proud parents threw a family party to celebrate her first birthday over the weekend.
Isabella reaching her milestone birthday was not the only surprise - as chef Ryan got down on one knee and proposed to Kym, much to her shock.
After singing Happy Birthday and getting Isabella to blow out the candle on her cake, Ryan took a moment to thank guests for coming for the party.
Ryan, from Bishop's Cleeve, Glos., said: "Obviously it's not just a birthday celebration.
It's a celebration of survival really.
"For a long time we did not think she would get to this point.
We are now finally a family.
There's only one thing left to make us a real family." As restaurant manager Kym jokingly called into the crowd: "Dad, did you hear that?", Ryan got down on one knee beside her.
As he pulled out the diamond ring, the emotional mum exclaimed "What?", and then buried her head in Isabella, who was in her arms, as she nodded her acceptance.
It was the perfect way to celebrate both Isabella's birthday and Father's Day - and Kym declared it was "one of the happiest days of my life".
The proposal is the culmination of a long year for the young couple after Isabella was born by emergency caesarian at 24 weeks weighing just 12.2 oz.
But after two life-saving operations and months of scares she was eventually released from hospital at six months old in December last year, in time to celebrate her first Christmas at home.
The couple admitted that Isabella's fraught first few months did affect their relationship at one point - but they worked through it and are now stronger than ever.
Kym announced that Ryan had given her the biggest surprise of all at Isabella's party by asking her to marry him.
"After all we have been through this is one of the happiest days of my life," she wrote.
Thanking Ryan for being an "amazing dad to our little girl", she told everyone that it was his love and support kept them both going every single day.
Ryan told Kym he had to pluck up the courage to propose with a few drinks beforehand but added: "I can't wait for us to be man and wife.
"You are the best mum to our little girl and I love you both so much." But both said the best thing was seeing Isabella reach the milestone birthday.
"Our beautiful little miracle turned one, a huge milestone for such a little fighter," wrote Kym.
"I am so so proud of her, the most amazing person I know.
Her smile keeps me going every single day."
