FITZGIBBONS RAISING TROPHY ON PODIUM STORY: Brazilian Filipe Toledo and Australian Sally Fitzgibbons rode their way to World Surf League (WSL) Rio Pro victories in front of huge crowds Sunday (June 23) in Brazil.

Local hero Toledo easily defeated South African Jordy Smith in the final heat with a best two ride total of 18.04 (out of 20) to Smith's 8.43 to earn his first Championship Tour (CT) win of the season.

The victory moved Toledo into the third spot on the men's CT rankings with Smith sliding back a spot to fourth.

American John John Florence remains atop the rankings after finishing fifth in Saquarema.

Fitzgibbons and Moore, who have been battling with Stephanie GIlmore over the top spot in the women's CT rankings all season, had a closer final heat with the Aussie scoring 14.64 to the American's 12.57.

The victory vaulted Fitzgibbons to number one in the women's rankings with Moore just behind in the second spot and Gilmore sliding down to third overall after her third place finish in Brazil.

The next WSL CT event is scheduled for July 9-22 at Jeffreys Bay in South Africa.
