Storm surges caused by Tropical Storm Barry triggered flooding in Lafitte, Louisiana, early on Saturday, July 13, after mandatory evacuations were called the day prior, according to local media.
Video posted to Facebook by Jefferson Parish Councilman Ricky Templet shows the Coulon Cemetery under water.
Flooding inundated the cemetery before Barry made landfall in the state, as shown in video shared online early on Saturday.
However, the water levels had risen several inches by the time Templet passed the graves.
Ahead of the storm, Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni had called for mandatory evacuations in Lafitte, local media reported.
However, some chose to stay and use sandbags to prevent against the flooding.
The National Hurricane Center confirmed that Barry had strengthened from tropical storm to a hurricane before making landfall, and said it would bring life-threatening winds and flooding to the Gulf Coast.
It later reported that Barry had weakened back to a tropical storm.
