Crowds Protest Boris Johnson at London's Russell Square

Demonstrators gathered near Russell Square in London, United Kingdom, on Wednesday, July 24, as the Queen asked the Conservative Party leader, Boris Johnson, to form a government, video shows.

The protest, styled as a street festival and dubbed “Fck Boris,” featured a speeches delivered from the top level of a red London bus and a crowd that included some carrying signs reading, “Cut War Not Welfare.” According to media reports, thousands were expected to attend.

The event’s Facebook page said the street festival was convened to reject Johnson, who was described as “proudly racist, sexist, homophobic.” Earlier on Wednesday, former Prime Minister Theresa May visited the queen to tender her resignation as head of government, news reports said.

Johnson was elected leader of the Conservative Party on July 23 and assumed his role as prime minister on July 24.

He previously served as Mayor of London and foreign secretary, where he was a proponent of the United Kingdom’s “Leave” campaign to exit the European Nnion.
