Ted Cruz Targeted With 'Free the Children' Chant at LAX

Republican Sen.

Ted Cruz of Texas was confronted by people protesting conditions at the Trump administration’s migrant detention centers on July 28 at Los Angeles International Airport as he waited for a flight to his home state, media reported.

Cruz initially waited for his flight wearing sunglasses and trying to be inconspicuous, media reported, but he was recognized nonetheless.

Protesters began to shout at him, this footage shows, saying phrases such as “Americans will not be silenced” and chanting “Free the children” while Cruz smiled and looked down, his hands in his pockets.

The person who uploaded the video to Twitter, who wishes to go by Naomi, said that at one point, Cruz told the crowd he believed everyone should express their First Amendment rights, and then continued to look at the ground as the chanting continued.

Naomi told Storyful she used the incident as a teaching moment for her son, who was waiting for a flight with her, and took the opportunity to explain that Cruz is a politician.

“People have the right to tell him what they think of political issues,” she said.

According to reports, Cruz was escorted away from the demonstrators after a fan attempted to get a photo taken with him.
