Your morning news now... a california state patrol officer was killed in a highway shootout overnight.

It happened during a traffic stop in the l-a area.

Police say the driver pulled a rifle and shot three officers before he was shot and killed.

The two other injured officers are in the hospital.

One has minor injuries.

The other is in critical condition.

New restrictions on guns are being proposed in ohio following the dayton mass shooting.

Two state lawmakers -- one republican, one democrat -- are working on the legislation.

The bills would require background checks on all gun sales... as well as require someone to be at least 21- years- old to buy a handgun in ohio.

((ad lib weather)) a newly announced plan from the trump administration could make it more difficult for legal immigrants to become u-s citizens.

The plan would expand on existing federal rules... which require immigrants to prove they won't be a burden to the country.

Under the expansion which is set to take effect in october ... legal immigrants could be denied green cards if they use public assistance programs like medicaid and food stamps.

Wisconsin governor tony evers is formally asking president trump to end ongoing trade conflicts between the u-s and other countries like china.

He says they're hurting many industries in wisconsin ... but especially agriculture.

In a new letter to the president ... governor evers says farmers are being impacted by trade uncertainty ... low prices for their products ... and bad weather.

Happening today in wisconsin ... fema teams start damage assessments from widespread storms last month.

As we have told you... storms in mid- july caused everything from flooding to tornadoes across 18 wisconsin counties ... including la crosse, vernon, and monroe.

Fema teams are expected to begin their work in polk and outagamie counties.

However, more rain chances are with us today.

We're beginning the day with areas of fog, so please use extra caution on the roads and turn on your low beams. we have a couple isolated showers and storms this morning, and the chance of rain will continue today.

It's a mild and muggy morning with temps in the 60s and 70s.
