'Moscow Mitch' is burying legislation: Pelosi

Speaker Nancy Pelosi attacked Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell on Wednesday, saying that "Moscow Mitch" is the self-described grim reaper of legislation, including that which addresses election security.

She was speaking to the Illinois Democratic Party meeting in Springfield.

Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

Speaker Pelosi attacked the Senate Majority Leader during a political speech in Illinois Wednesday, questioning why the Senate refuses to take up legislation already passed by the House.

"Moscow Mitch says that he is the grim reaper.

Imagine describing yourself as the grim reaper?

That he's going to bury all this legislation.

Well, we have news for him.

All this legislation is alive and well in the general public." Speaker Pelosi has generally refrained from using derogatory terms. The nickname "Moscow Mitch" was first used by MSNBC host Joe Scarborough in an opinion column published in the Washington Post, titled, "Mitch McConnell is a Russian Asset." Senator McConnell expressed his irritation at the nickname during a speech on the Senate floor in late July, saying, "I don't normally take the time to respond to critics in the media when they have no clue what they're talking about, but this modern-day McCarthyism is toxic and damaging because of the way it warps our entire public discourse." In her Illinois speeach, Speaker Pelosi also attacked President Donald Trump.

Last week, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said his committee's work is "formal impeachment proceedings." Speaker Pelosi noted that all members of Congress have taken an oath of office to protect the country from all enemies foreign and domestic.

"No one is above the law, no one is above the law.

We all must be held accountable for our actions.

But it's about America as Glen said and others have said already, it's about America.

And what is America?

America is our Constitution with our great system of checks and balances, our freedom, our Bill of Rights and the rest, that is it.

And the President continually undermines our Constitution.

Speaker Pelosi also addressed gun violence, calling for the elimination of high capacity ammunition magazines for firearms. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave the keynote address at the Illinois Democratic County Chairman's Association 2019 County Chairs' Brunch.

Washington (CNN) Former President Bill Clinton said Sunday it is "superficially hypocritical" for President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans to push to put a new justice on the Supreme Court before the November election.
