There's been 'war' against working class: Sanders

'For 45 years there’s been a war in this country waged by the corporate elite against the working class of America,' said U.S. Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders on Wednesday, in a speech to labor unions in Iowa.

Sanders said his election platform includes the 'strongest pro union platform in the history of American politics.'

He spoke at the Iowa Federation of Labor conference in Altoona, where Democratic candidates were vying for union support on Wednesday (August 21).

'Now if there is going to be class warfare in this country, it's time that the working class of this country won that war and not just the corporate elite,' he added.

With so many labor-friendly Democratic candidates in the mix, unions have increased clout in the 2020 election.

But there will be stiff competition to get their formal backing, and endorsements may come later than in past cycles.

Unions are a force in Democratic politics and endorsements can be a powerful force in primaries and general elections, marshaling the support of millions of union members across the country.
