British lawmakers push and shove as Parliament is suspended

A group of opposition lawmakers held up signs reading "silenced" in front of House Speaker John Bercow during the closing ceremony, prompting colleagues to pull them away with some falling over.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's controversial suspension of parliament, or prorogation, will last for five weeks as the future of Brexit remains mired in uncertainty.

Johnson appears to have lost control of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union with the approval of a law, which obliges him to seek a delay unless he can strike a new deal at an EU summit next month.
