C1 3 being hit by a car while riding his bike in nicholasville... hear what his neighbors are saying about it.

L3: now at 11 white record-breaking heat jason headline l3: now at 11 white wildcats add one more and a big announcement for u-k football's defense today.

Good evening and welcome in, i'm tom kenny.

And, i'm veronica jean seltzer.

A young boy was seriously injured after colliding with a car on his bike while trying to cross a road in nicholasville.

Police say it happened on miles road just before five...when traffic is heavier and you have kids out playing after school.

Abc 36's monica harkins went to the scene to find out how police think it happened....she's in the studio with that and neighbor reaction.

Nicholasville police tell me it seems like a blind spot situation.

A black truck was parked here.

And a black kia was driving this way.

Police say the boy on his bike pulled out into the road from behind the truck.

I talked to a neighbor who says with all the traffic miles road gets...it's not a shock that the boy was hit.

Edward "oh when you think they're just going up the street to play, a couple houses down."

Miles road...a neighborhood street full of families with kids...and cars.

"it's a through road."

It runs parallel to main street.

Edward coy lives on miles road.

He says it's always congested.

"people use traverse from maple this way to by pass downtown nicholasville.

I know i do it.

Try and take any side street to avoid traffic."

He says he's not surprised police say a boy collided with a car trying to cross the street on his bike.

Coy says as a dad himself to young boy around the same age as the boy who was hit...he knows kids just want to get out and play.

"pay more attention, because they're not.

They're more concerned with their friends, more concerned about having fun.- and it doesn't matter how many times you tell them they're just going to continue to do it until some, until hopefully somebody learns something and unfortunately something bad happened."

Nicholasville police say th e boy was crossing the street to meet his friend to ride bikes.

He says while the speed limit is already set to twenty five he hopes people will use this as a wake up call not to blow through a neighborhood.

"slow down at least abide by the law, the speed limit and pay attention to the people around.

That could be anywhere ya know."

Miles road...a road that could be any road across kentucky...but for one boy he'll always see it differently.

Police told me the boy's injuries were serious but they hadn't heard an update from the hospital about how serious.

I'm monica harkins, abc 36 news.

A woman accused of causing a crash that left a 10-year- old girl dead, had more than just alcohol in her system.

Overcrowding has long been a problem at the madison county jail.

Today.... the madison county fiscal court voted in favor of a property tax increase in order to fund a new 45- million-dollar jail.

L3: white tax to fund new jail passes fiscal court madison county it means property taxes will go up by 11 cents for every $100.

But before that vote happened - around twenty people gave their opinion on the increase - and the majority were against it.

One of them was mary renfro... who says the tax increase will add a few hundred dollars to her bills.

On the other side - the judge executive says this has been a problem for years and they haven't been left with other options.

Currently the jail has 184 beds and is housing 200 more inmates than it can hold.

The new 45-million dollar proposed jail would have over 800 beds.

"i dont like a tax increase.

Im just like everybody else but i took an oath to uphold the law and thats what im here to do even if its unpopular."

"i'm totally against it.

We as madison county resident we need to oppose this.

C1 3 turning to politics... president c1 3 trump is making more changes in his administration.

Up next... why john bolton will no longer serve as national security advisor.

C1 3 house.

His national security advisor is now looking for a new job... but as karen travers reports... he didn't find out directly from the president.

L3: nation view white john bolton out as national security advisor l3: nation view white mike pompeo secretary of state l3: nation view white john bolton out as national security advisor l3: nation view white karen travers abc news supers: secretary mike pompeo / state department karen travers / abc news, the white house video provided by: newsone dc length: o/c top: john bolton is one of washington's most vocal war hawks?now he's out as president trump's national security advisor.

-start broll- it was a bombshell announcement...in a tweet.

President trump writing just before noon...i informed john bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the white house.

I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the administration, the former national security advisor pushing back?telling abc news he was not fired?that he offered to resign last night and confirmed it this morning.

Bolton pushed for a more aggressive foreign policy strategy than others in president trump's inner circle...he recently clashed with the president on iran, negotiations at camp david with the taliban and north korea.

In may, bolton said that north korea's short range ballistic missile launches were a violation of a un security council resolution.

The next day...the president said he disagreed: trump sot my people think it could have been a violation, as you know.

I view it differently at 10:56am, the white house announced a press briefing with secretary of state mike pompeo, treasury secretary steve mnuchin and bolton.

Exactly 62 minutes later?the tweet from president trump announcing bolton was out.

The briefing still took place - but most of the questions were about the man who was not there.

Pompeo sot the president's entitled to the staff he wants, at any moment trusts and values and whose efforts and judgments benefit him in delivering american foreign policy.

-end broll- o/c close: john bolton's deputy will now step in as acting national security advisor.

President trump says he'll name a permanent replacement for bolton next week.

Up next... the linebacker who could make an immediate impact on the defense... and just got cleared to play.

Terry wilson..

Out for the season.

But how about this..

Florida state transfer xavier peters cleared by the ncaa..

Immediately eligible to play this season.

That's right the former four-star outside linebacker won't have to sit out a season as part of the transfer rules.

Peters enrolled at uk back in may..

So that he could be closer to family.

He was once a cats commit before signing with florida state.

Peters is just a freshman..

But could see significant time in what is already a pretty talented linebacking core.

Peters additioning could also have a ripple effect for the cats secondary.

After losing their top five players last year to graduation..

And lost their top returning player due to a knee injury.

It hasn't been the learning curve many believe it would be with those new guys.

With that said..

They're first real test will come saturday against florida.

The gators come into this one..

Averaging nearly 300 yards a game through the air.

That includes a 25-27 outing from starting quarterback felipe franks in last weeks blowout win over ut-martin.
