Many people find themselves at a loss for words when thinking about what happened on 9- eleven.
Today, jamie perez spoke to a 15 year old girl about what it means... to those who were born on such a significant day in history.
Not only were so many lives lost that day..
But there were also people who were born that day too.
Today i spoke with one 15 year old girl who spoke about what it's like for those who were given a life on a day when so many were lost.
Nats we remember the times before... nats the moments during... nats and the moments after... nats... it's a day most of us will never forget... nats but for people like claire orlikowski, it's a day she was never around to remember "september 11th, 2004" claire was born three years after the twin towers were hit.
"since i never experienced it, i never felt a sense of reality.
Claire says she learned about 9-11 when she was in second and third grade.
After that, she said it wasn't really talked about in school.
"they felt like maybe if they taught about it every year, people already knew a lot about it."
It's a day that's always been bittersweet for claire... sharing a birthday with a day that carries such heavy emotions for the rest of the country..
One that she will never be able to reflect on.
"it's definitely really weird to be celebrating while so many other people are remembering and mourning" claire's mom sarah felt the same at first..
"she was my first child so to have that be the due date was a little like ehh kind of an ominous due date.
People would ask when is she due and i'd say sept.
11 and they would be like oh..."
But as the years go by, sarah acknowledges that it's an important day to take a moment to remember... but for all the parents who gave a life on a day when so many other parents lost one close to them..
"i felt like a new life is a really beautiful symbol of hope" moving forward while still remembering, in whatever way someone chooses...is all anyone can really do..
"if it's tied to your birthday it gives you a really personal connection to it even if you weren't alive during that time.."
In madison, "now that i'm older i realize the scope of the tragedy and how momentus it was" jamie perez, news 3 now.
Claire turned 15 today and said though she didn't talk about 9-11 in school today, she is remembering everyone affected on this day 18 years ago.
Jamie perez reporting... thank you.
