((maureen 1plas)) happening tonight -- president barack obama delivered his farewell speech from chicago.
During the nearly hour long speech -- the president looked back at the beginning of his presidency and the progress made during that time.
He referenced job growth -- the affordable care act -- and the assassination of osama bin laden.
He talked about the progress the country has made and how much progress it has yet to make.
Mr. obama also mentioned a peaceful transition of power to president elect donald-trump -- saying president george w.
Bush did the same for him.
Many of the president's statements tonight were met with thunderous applause and cheers ((sot)) the president wrapped up his speech by wishing the country the best for the future -- and repeating his key slogan from 2008 --"yes we can" ((maureen 1plas)) we wanted to see what some of you thought about the presidents farewell speech -- there was a watch party at merchants grill in rochester.
It was sponsored by rochester for obama, monroe county democratic committee...and labor groups.
These are people who supported mr. obama, when he first announced his candidacy.((sot))"it was a little bit sad but i was encouraged.
He really just there was so much unity and progression with his two terms and even though a lot has happened in the past few years he's given us a lot of hope and i really hope that we continue to work together."
