Rod: ed smith elementary school in syracuse holding celebrations for black history month today.

Dances were performed, and students heard from civil rights activist alice moore, who took part in the historic march from selma to montgomery alabama in 1965.

Alice moore: the freedom they have to walk into places, it just didn't come automatically somebody fought for them to get to that point and that's why you have to remember to tell your children and keep the history alive so everybody will be able to know what happened, how they got to where they are, and how to continue to go on rod: moore also encouraged students to continue to fight to make sure their rights are protected.
