Maryland state attorney is traveling to observe a major terrorism trial.

Charlie smith - frederick county states attorney "i think its a major honor to be accepted to be one of the observers i mean out of all the thousands of people they couldve chose, i was the one selected."

Shennekia grimshaw reporting: smith is scheduled to fly out of andrews air force base in maryland.

The trip is fully funded by the us military courts.

And he says observants are put in place to assure this will be a fair trail especially since this is a very high level death penalty trial.

Charlie smith - frederick county states attorney "i think in a trial this magnitude where youre talking about obvisouly a major terriorism trial, with death penalty implication, they want to cover all their bases they want to ensure that its a fair trial and that no wrong-doing or ethical violations occur."

Shennekia grimshaw reporting: there will also be multiple observers from other organizations in cuba to witness the two week trial.
