Christina:he's the u-s navy seal who claims to have fired the shots that killed al- qaeda founder- - osama bin laden-- and tonight-- he's here in siouxland.
Rob o'neill was the keynote speaker at this evening's 32-nd annual-- siouxland chamber of commerce dinner.
It took place at the sioux city convention center.
O'neill is the former navy seal team leader-- who led the raid that killed bin laden.
O'neill wrote a best-selling memoir about firing the deadly shots-- it's entitled-- "a white kid from butte, montana who doesn't know how to swim becomes a navy seal, ends up on all these high-profile missions and ends up killing osama bin laden.
That's an american story about never quitting.
It doesn't matter where you're from or what you look like as long as you avoid negativity and never quit," says rob o'neill, u.s. navy seal who killed osama bin laden.
O'neil also took part in another well- known mission-- where he rescued a ship captain from somali pirates.
That rescue story was made into a movie.
"i get inspired by the troops who are still serving.
By the young men and women who leave high school or college and enlist or get their commission in the military.
They don't want to just sit there and be a name caller because everyone's so evil in the world.
They want to do something right.
There is a point that i've seen that you can be a victim or a survivor and i love seeing the people that become survivors."
In addition to o'neill's speech, the chamber also recognized longtime sioux city community leaders jim and bev wharton at tonight's dinner.
The couple received the 2017 w-edwards deming business leadership and entrepreneuri al excellence award,
