It's championship saturday at the kohl center 6 area wrestlers go for state gold.

News 8's bryan mcloone is in madison with a recap of tonight's action.

782 matches over the last 3 days brings us to the final round at the 76th annual wiaa individual wrestling championships.

One more win and you earn the right to call yourself...state champ.... despite the weather, a full house at the kohl center on saturday...the march of champions introduces the remaining 84 wrestlers.

42 of them will walk as a state champion... division 1...holmen's kalyn jahn in the 170 pound final for the second straight year...trailing by 2 in the first period...jahn gets the escape to move within 1...but arrowhead's josh otto pads his lead with a couple takedowns....jah n loses by an 11-5 decision to finish runner up... divison 2 126 pound final....g-e- t/mel-min's julian purney takes the 4-2 lead in the 2nd period on the reversal...but two rivers cody holmes gets a 2 point reversal to take the lead in the 3rd...purney loses a 6-5 decision.

"i didn't do as well as i wanted to.

But i am so glad i got the opportunity to wrestle in the finals and show people what i am capable of..

So i am very glad.

West salem/bango r's dalton schams in the d2 138 final....st.

John northwestern's aiden medora gets the pinfall in the 3rd period to cap off an undefeated season.

Division 2 195 pound final...3rd peoid....viroqua's tyler hannah gets the escape to tie the match at 1....30 seconds to go...neillsville's stephen buchanon gets the takedown to take the lead....and will hold off hannah by a 3-2 decision.

We wanted to play hard and we wanted to play smart, but we needed some energy to get us going again and throughout the playoffs, we have had good energy to start games."

She takes first in the all around with a 35.8... --------------------- as a team west salem finishes runner-up to perrenial state-power river falls... just .325 behind them.

They move on to state.

"we had a few ups and downs but we came out very strong so i was happyi'm nervous but i'm excited.

I watched last year and it seemed like a lot of fun so i can't wait to be with the team" xxxxxxxxxxxxxx also today.... holmen places fourth as a team at the division one sectional at chippewa falls.

Harley bartels third in the balance beam and floor excercise.

And at the division two meet at platteville.... viroqua is the top area team... they also place fourth..... viroqua's lydia korn third in the all-around.

Most local girls basketball teams who advanced to the regional championship game are going to have to wait an extra 48- hours.

All but a few get postponed to monday night because of today's weather.

In division two onalaska gets their game in as they host new richmond.

------------------- tigers out to an early lead today...until olivia gamoke spots up from deep....hilltoppe rs go back in front.... --------- nearing the end of the first half....barb kling hits from three to pull the tigers within four......but onalaska would hold a slim lead at the half..... ------ hilltoppers come out hot in the second half....lauren arenz on the wing....can't give her that much room....onalaska would lead by 11.....she had a team-high 14.

---------- but here come the tigers....audrey feuerer goes baseline....rever se lay up is good......she heads to the line......new richmond back within three... ---------- but onalaska would close it out from there....lexi miller with the steal....she takes it the distance....gets the basket and the foul..... ------------------ hilltoppers hold for the win.....54 to 43.......they are regional champions "our team is just so happy that we got this far, it was our goal the whole season to try to keep on working and get better on defense, especially.

I think we did really well on that and we shut down the main girl on defense.

And once we started moving the ball really well, we just starting knocking down shots and getting open looks."

Xxxxxxxxxxxxx uw-la crosse wrestling places second at the upper midwest regional.... five wrestlers will advance to nationals... onalaska grad konrad ernst is named the regional's most outstanding wrestler.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxx wiac indoor track and field championships.

Uw-la crosse men literally run-away with the title.

Eagle women place second... ten-points back of first place eau claire.
