Our top story tonight at 6: tyson foods in vienna is closed today... after the administrative building suffered damage ... from saturday's storms. 41nbc's tanya modersitzki is at the plant... with details on what happened.
(:05) (:30) (:45) as you can see behind me here at the tyson food plant, people are in the background and the parking lot isn't completely full like what employees say they're use to.
That's because tyson is closed today as crews work to repair the collapsed roof as a result of tropical storm nestor.
"based on what national weather service had told us it was a little bit different scenario but i mean we were expectingthat there was a possibility of a tornado."
For most of saturday, dooly county emergency management director kenny calhoun, says it rained lighly, until around 6:30 that night.
"then when we went under the tornado warning we had wind pick up and we got just a torrential flood."
Which caused problems for people driving through dooly county.
"i dont remember the number but we had an unusal amount of accidents on i75" the flooding from tropical storm nestor caused problems for businesses, like tyson foods in vienna.
Monday, the plant closed due to the roof administrative roof collapsing.
""we don't have any other wind damage in that area it just seems like they had a roof failure due to the heavy rain."
In a statement from tyson foods, it reads in part quote " the plant was not operating at that time and there were no injuries to team members.
We're grateful for the quick response and assistance of local emergency management officials."
Calhoun say there's no reported injuries even with the high c1 3 b13 volume of accidents on i-75.
