Thunberg sets sail for Spain climate talks

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg set off for Spain from Virginia aboard a catamaran on Wednesday, after an 11-week tour of North America to demand action on climate change that included an impassioned speech at a summit of the United Nations.

Jillian Kitchener has more.

Greta Thunberg is back on the open seas.

The 16-year-old climate activist on Wednesday, wearing a dark hat and jacket, set sail from Virginia for a transatlantic journey to Madrid, where she plans to attend another round of U.N.

Climate talks.

Because she rejects flying due to high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, Thunberg hitched a ride with an Australian couple on a 48-foot catamaran... leaving the same way she arrived in the United States: by boat.

With the wind in her hair in late August, Thunberg sailed into New York Harbor to deliver a highly anticipated speech at the U.N.

I shouldn't be up here.

I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean." In her address at the U.N.

In September, she scolded world leaders for not doing enough to protect the environment.

You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words…” Her powerful words were followed by an angry glare at President Donald Trump as he arrived at the U.N., igniting a Twitter spat between the two.

Since then, Thunberg has spent months traversing North America, headlining climate protests.

On Tuesday, an artist unveiled a mural of Thunberg in San Francisco - with another stern expression - to remind residents of the dangers posed by climate change.
