Death toll rises in Bolivia after soldiers move against protesters

At least five people were killed in Bolivia on Friday (November 15) as supporters of former President Evo Morales clashed with police in the rural region of Cochabamba, according to local media.

Video showed police using tear gas on a crowd throwing rocks at protesters.

The country's official ombudsman put the total deaths so far since the October vote at 19 and has called for an urgent government investigation into the use of force by police and the military.

Morales and his vice president fled Bolivia to Mexico earlier this week--taking up an asylum offer from the Mexican government.

Protests against the newly formed government of interim President Jeanine Anez have rattled the country in Bolivia's biggest political upheaval in more than a decade.
