CCTV FOOTAGE OF BACKYARD (AUDIO OF SONIC BOOM) STORY: A loud bang woke up residents in the early hours of Sunday (December 1) in the English town of Stevenage and the surrounding areas north of London.
Lauren McQueirns, from Stevenage, shared security camera footage which captured the loud noise that occurred at around 0420GMT.
"We were asleep and woke to a really loud bang and the house shook, we thought a bomb had gone off," McQueirns told Reuters.
Two Typhoon jets from the Royal Air Force were the origin of the noise, an RAF spokeswoman told local media.
The UK Metropolitan Police also confirmed the incident on its Twitter account: "The loud bang heard throughout north London and surrounding areas was the result of a sonic boom from RAF planes.
There is no cause for concern." (Production: Oleksandr Ieltsov)
