Him what the big story has been this season..
Shondell and the boilers are looking to add another chapter to their 20-19 season when they face no.
1 baylor in the sweet 16 tomorrow.
Shondell's response this past tuesday wasn't a game or a moment off the court but rather a player..
Caitlyn newton was an unheralded recruit..
The terre haute south graduate only had two big ten offers..
Purdue and indiana..
Newton's father attended i-u..
But she bypassed the school in bloomington for the school in west lafayette..
That decision has benefitted herself and the boilers..
Purdue is one win away from an elite eight appearance..
Newton one reason why..
The junior outside hitter leads the team in kills and points and earned second-team all-big ten honors.
So what did shondell see in newton that others didn't?
Dave shondell: i knew she had a bazooka for an arm and you can't teach that.
I mentioned the other day to somebody that it's like a baseball pitcher.
You don't teach somebody to throw the ball 99 miles per hour.
You can't teach a player to hit the ball as hard as she does.
A lot of people that watched her play in high school would have never believed that she would get to this point but she's redefined her body.
She's redefined her mind and her approach to being successful and she's just been a great story.
Hayley bush: well she's always hit the crap out of the ball.
It's always been extremely scary when you're on the other side of the net than her but from freshman year to now i think she's gained like a sense of more confidence when she plays.
She knows that she's great and that she can do great things so honestly she's always been great and she keeps getting better and better.
Newton and 16th- seeded purdue to clash with top-seeded baylor tomorrow at noon.
We'll have the highlights at 6:20.
