Heartwarming moment stranded dog is rescued after falling into river in Thailand

A dog that was started by fireworks and fell off a bridge was rescued after spending two days stranded in a river.

The pooch was seen by Suriya Phonrueng, 30, when he was taking tourists on an inflatable banana boat along the river in Kalasin, north eastern Thailand, last Tuesday (January 2) afternoon.

He noticed the shivering mutt clinging to a concrete pillar from the motorway bridge, with its legs submerged in the cold water.

It had escaped from a nearby home after being startled by fireworks then falling from the bridge into the water.

Fortunately, the dog took refuge on the base of the concrete pillar - surviving all of New Year's Day, the cold evening and the next day.

Suriya found the black and white mutt weary and shivering with all parts of its body soaking wet.

He says in the video: "How can you be this position?

Are you cold?

Who could leave you here, poor dog." Suriya picked up the dog and went back to the shore.

He later tracked down the dog's owner who was delighted to be reunited with his beloved pet, which he said was named 'Fino'.

The boat captain added: ''Fino's owner said that he did not leave his dog stranded, but Fino ran away from home during the New Year celebrations because of the sounds of the fireworks.

He was frightened and probably jumped off the bridge or fell in.

"Fino is now back home, safely.

I am so pleased that I could save the dog's life."
