Drowning baby deer rescued from pond in northeast India and released back into the forest

A spotted baby deer was rescued from drowning in a local pond by a forest team with the help of villagers in north-east India.

The lost fawn was found in Nichraul forest range in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, on January 18, when some villagers heard its distressed cries coming from an overgrown pond.

The villagers informed the forest department, who dispatched a three member team, one of whom swam out to rescue it while tied with a harness rope.

Video shows the baby deer calling in distress and shivering from cold and exhaustion while it was taken to a shelter to be cared for.

It was later released the following day back into the forest, having fully recovered.

According to local forest ranger Jagannath Prasad, "Due to the cold, the baby deer was shivering, so first we kept him near a bonfire and then in our vehicle to keep him warm with the heating." "By evening on the same day after examining his condition we left him in forest area."
