"This is all over the world even though it's at that one beautiful border where by the way a very major powerful wall is right now being built," Trump said at the White House ceremony followed by some laughter.
"I don't know if I should say that at this particular meeting.
I know last night it got a very big hand, I know today they are a little bit like 'are we supposed to clap now?" At a rally last night, Trump said: "But Mexico is, in fact, you will soon find out, paying for the wall, ok?" Trump supporters cheered after he made the comments in New Jersey.
The Mexican government, however, has refused to fund the project.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Wednesday "we don't want to fight," responding to reports that U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday repeated his claim that Mexico is paying for a border wall, adding that elections are approaching in the United States.
"Our relationship with the government of the United States is good," said Lopez Obrador, speaking during his regular morning news conference.
"We don't want to fight."
