Conservationists astonished as rare hornbill chicks born in captivity

Hidden cameras at Chester Zoo have captured footage showing the hatching of two rare hornbill chicks – the first of their kind to hatch in the UK in 13 years.

It’s believed to be the only time rhinoceros hornbill chicks have been filmed hatching on camera due to their unique nesting behaviours, as the mum will seal themselves high up in a tree cavity to protect her new chicks.

What’s more special is the survival story of their parents who were both rescued from a fire at the zoo in Dec 2018, leaving conservationists astonished.
