Timelapse shows rare asperitas cloud formation glide over Black Forest in Germany

Timelapse footage shows a rare asperitas cloud formation glide over the Black Forest in Staufen, Germany on February 23.

Local photographer Steffen Schwenzer, who filmed this, said: "This display was probably caused by a strong jetstream, wind shear and a developing low above central Europe." The Met Office describes the cloud formation as "a distinctive but relatively rare cloud formation that takes the appearance of rippling waves.

"These wave-like structures form on the underside of the cloud to make it look like a rough sea surface when viewed from below."
