Hicks pleads not guilty

Tonight from a scott county woman...as she heard the man accused of murdering her sister...tell a courtroom...he didn't do it.

Joseph hicks was accused of sheena baxter's murder last week before investigators even found her body.

As abc 36's monica harkins reports... baxter's sister says she's confident hicks will be held accountable.

Waiting.

Every uncertain moment...a painful one when sheena baxter was a missing person.

Now, christa crumley is waiting again...as the trial for her sister's accused killer joseph hicks...begins.

"is it hard, yes.

It's very satisfying to me to see him at this point."

Hicks, baxter's ex, is accused of murdering the 32- year-old mother of three.

He pleaded not guilty monday in scott county.

Baxter disappeared from outside her sister's home...valentine's day.

That same night, police say hicks lied about being shot in an attempted robbery.

His current bond is a million dollars...something crumley says her family wanted higher.

"for peace of mind."

Defense attorney greg coulson wouldn't say anything about his client... hicks...but says the community should be focusing on supporting baxter's family.

"this is going to be a very long process and it's going to be difficult and that family is going to need that over the coming months and years."

Something crumley says she's grateful to have....but makes her miss her sister even more.

"i'm able to hold my composure and be strong since my sister can't be there right now to do it.

Like i said there were things she could do better than i could."

"i hear that in the back of my mind.

Christa, you know, she's coaching me, i do.

And i sit there and think about stuff, you know.

She knows i got her....and i promised her i would.

I've got her."

Investigators haven't said exactly what killed baxter yet...and crumley's family is stull putting together her sister's funeral arrangements...wait ing...painfully...once again.
