Martin parish -- march is officially womens history month... and in celebration to women around acadiana and the world..

The mayor of st.

Martinville planned a trip to the goveno's mansion to present her with a special gift... thats right last week the ladies were escorted to baton rouge for a day of womens empowerment and hannah st claire has more on the story... hannah good morning.

Alex...carter... what a time to be alive... for women.... im delighted that i's offically march and womens history month where we can highlight amazing women in the community that are making a difference.

This week we are highlighing mayor melinda of st.

Martinville for providing an opportunity for over 60 local women to visit the governors mansion, share similarities and bring awareness to womens rights... lets take a closer look.... "women rising" because women for a long time were scared.... they were scared to do what they want to do and now you can do what you want to do... women are on the rise in st.

Martinville... and in recongnition of womens history month mayor melinda coordinated the event for womens empowerment at the governors mansion in baton rouge.well be escorted by the city pd to the governors mansion with approx 65 women...when we get there well take group photos...the first lady will come down, introduce herself, well take a 45 minute tour of the mansion and then eat at a fine resturant and fellowship with women.

Womens rights and equality are essential to many of the women who attendedits important because we all the the sayin iron sharpens iron...we all go things as women and to be able to share one anothers story and let one another know we can do it and help one another...because of the mayor i believe our town is becoming more diverse... she is the mayor for everyone and it is wonderful to see.

Visiting the govenors mansion gives the select group of women a opportunity to engage with the govenor and his wife... share ideas....and become empowered...no matter what strength comes in numbers so together we can push foward and empower one another...st.

Martinville get ready we have so much in store for our great historic city and we do want you to be apart of it.

3 all the ladies are hoping to encourge and inspire women of all ages to believe in themselves... find their voices and build a supportive community...and while visiting the governors mansion in baton rouge... mayor melinda extended the olive branch of womens empowerment by presenting the first lady of the state with a key to the city of st.

Martinville... what an honor... in studio...for news 15, im hannah st claire.
