Tippecanoe County has new voting machines on its mind

Tippecanoe County community members are making sure the voting equipment is fast and factual.

Things tippecanoe county community mbers say is what they want during the voting process.

Today they had a chance to test out potential new voting machines.

I talked to them plus an election consultant takes us through the vote.

Nats "simple as touching you can swipe it just like an ipad and such.... sot: "this is a vast improvement...touch screen is fine as long as it prints out a piece of paper that the voter can look at and go these are my choices."

Jb: there were several choices of voting machines the public could test out monday.

Mark howell said he likes having a physical copy of his vote.

Sot: i like the idea of a paper ballot...yes it costs more...anything with a paper trail where the voter can actually look at the ballot see the choices they made before its cast...fabulous.

Jb: here's what that would like like.

Sot: once you hit vote when you are comfortable with everything.

On your way out walk up to the scanner can go in any 4 orientations.

Slide it in and that point it is tabulated.

Jb: jay perbix said it is impossible to vote incorrectly on his company's machines.

The final vote is not cast until you have the paper ballot nat and put it into the machine nat sot: here you look at that piece of paper befor eit goes into the machines.

There's your votes.

Jb: many voters are worried about consistency and efficiency during the voting process.

County clerk julie roush said all the machines are tested and approved by the state.

Sot: they test all these machines.

They are look at security, usability, they are looking at efficiency.

They are making sure they follow a very stringent testing.

Jb: she said many states look up to indiana's voting procedures and explains the mindset of tippecanoe county voters.

Sot: we want our voters to feel confident in our system.

Because if you deter people if they feel like there vote does not matter, the vote is not marking the way they want it to.

Even though it may not be true, they are not going to come out and vote.

We want people to come out and vote.

Jb: the community said they would love new voting machines.

"you would like to see these voting machines as soon a possible."

"tomorrow laughs...."

Hard end roush says she and her team are highly considering new voting machines.

But cost is an issue.

Primary election day is may 5th.
