Huge flames as East London flat catches fire amid coronavirus lockdown

London's emergency services tackled to contain a blaze, against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, at a flat above a Sainsbury's supermarket in Shoreditch, East London.

Dozens of firefighters from London Fire Brigade were on the scene at Charles Square near Old Street roundabout on Thursday morning (March 26).

The filmer, Erhan Sendur, told Newsflare: "We were driving on Old Street when I saw a small explosion and the flames instantly catch fire.

It was spreading in an unbelievably quick way.

"Luckily the old fire station was just a couple doors down and they were instantly on the scene and blocked off the road.

Two fire trucks came speeding down the road within minutes.

"There was residents screaming from above and people running in the street.

I have never seen such horror happen within seconds." According to local media, there were no casualties.
