What started out as an early spring fishing excursion á ended with one outdoorsman missing and searchers spending the entire afternoon in a desperate search to find him.

George á it happned on the winnebago river near the town of fertile in worth county.

Two men were boating down the river when one of them became snagged in some cables and went into the river.

"it's an ongoing thing, so we're just going to keep going with that."

Throughout the afternoon, first responders from multiple agencies combed the winnebago river for the missing man.

They employed every tool at their disposal.

"we've got air.

We've also got clear lake's drone to go underneath the water.

We're going to search with that.

And then foot traffic from both our rescue units from hanlontown and fertile."

A dive team was also part of the search.

Nats: helicopter at one point, mercy one north iowa's airámed was on standby in case the victim was found á they were eventually called back.

The other man who was in the boat was not hurt in the accident.

"he is fine, he is out of the boat.

We've been gaining information and talking to him."

The search continued throughout the afternoon and into the early evening.

Crews walked the banks and ambulances stood by á ready to transport.

With daylight runing out, the search was called off for the day.
