Report: 30% Of Americans With Chronic Illnesses Hospitalized For COVID-19

Americans with underlying health problems seem to be at a higher risk for severe COVID-19 compared to those who are healthy.

According to UPI, such underlying conditions include diabetes, chronic lung disease and heart disease.

The findings come from a new analysis from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Figures released Tuesday by the agency show nearly 30% of patients with underlying conditions who have acquired the virus required hospitalization.

Also, 94% of those who have died of the virus had at least one underlying health condition.

Nearly 80 million Americans are living with high blood pressure, more than 30 million have some form of diabetes, and 20 million suffer from heart disease.

Researchers say the findings are similar to what was found in Wuhan, China, where the global pandemic began.
