Stay At Home Order In Effect

In effort to thwart further spread of the corona virus, only essential workers are allowed to return to work.

Is at 12.

Today is the first work day since governor kay ivey issued a state-wide stay-at-home order .

This means people have to stay in their homes unless they are essential workers or performing essential activities such as grocery shopping.

Waay 31's rodneya ross joins us live at the madison county sheriff's office with how exactly law enforcement plans to enforce the order.

With the stay-at-home order officially in effect -- the madison county sheriff's office told us they won't be out looking for people violating the order -- instead they'll wait for complaints.

If the sheriff's office receives calls about people violating the order -- they will respond and give out a warning.

They'll also educate people about how the new law works.

But -- if the people refuse to listen, the sheriff's office could issue a ticket or even arrest the person if necessary.

One woman we talked who told us she hopes people take the new law seriously to keep coronavirus from spreading.

Rendi hernandez/ huntsville resident "the longer they continue to go out and do what they want, the longer this is going to go on."

The stay at home order will end at 5 p-m on april 30th, unless it's extended.

At noon today, we expect to learn more from city and county leaders during a news conference on the status of coronavirus in our community.
