Golf Courses Stay Open and Take Precautions Amir COVID-19 Concerns

As we’ve reported, many businesses have had to shut down due to COVID-19 concerns.

Golf courses are one exception that have stayed open throughout this time.

"many businesses" have been forced to shut down "due to the covid-19 pandemic".

And when it comes "to golf courses"..

Some "are" closed..

But not all of them.

News 10's "dominic miranda" spoke "with a golfer today" at local course.

He joins us now..

With more..

On what courses are doing "to keep everyone safe".

/////// in this time of isolation, uncertainty, and stress, some people are taking to the golf course to decompress.

Golf courses around the wabash valley... like rea parks here in terre haute...are still open for business.

I spoke with local golfer dave kennedy today.

He told me what precautions are in place to protect those who come and golf.

Kennedy told me they've abided by governor holcomb's rules as far as how to maintain golf course properly if a lot of people come out.

For instance, they only allow 1 cart per person.

Every time that cart comes in after being used, it's sanitized and cleaned.

There are also no rakes on the golf course so no one can touch them.

Kennedy says the rule is, you're also not allowed to touch flagsticks.

Instead, there is foam at the bottom of each flag stick so the ball doesn't go all the way to bottom of hole.

Also starting tomorrow, the clubhouse will be off limits to the public.

It will become a curbside service they will take all payments for a round of golf, drinks, or carts at the door.

Overall... kennedy says if they keep all this up, rea park should be in good shape.

"at this point as long as we abide by the strict guidelines that we enforce at the golf course, we're allowed to be open.

Essentially, everything we could possibly do so nobody touches the same thing, we're doing."

Now other golf courses in indiana....like all of those in indianapolis... have been instructed to shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Coming up at 6.... i'll have more for you on what the future of these golf courses in the wabash valley look like... and what might cause them to shut down.
