A homeless shelter in Chico is helping protect their most vulnerable guests from the coronavirus.

They some 40 people out of the shelter and into hotel rooms&.

The torres shelter works with elderly people or people who have preexisting medical conditions.

Over the last couple of days employees at the torres shelter moved them into local hotel rooms. sot 22 seconds matthew reed/ interim executive director, true north housing alliance: it was an uplifting and heartwarming thing to see at the shelter helping people move and we had several guests that went over to the motels to help people set their rooms up so it could be more like home for them.

Reed says, they have 24/7 monitoring at the hotels making the guests follow the same shelter rules.

He says they are frequently checking in on them and feeding them daily none of the guests wanted to talk on cam but reed says most are thankful.

There are still 90 guests staying at the torres shelter right now.

Workers here tell me they are following the guidelines to keep the guests who are still here- safe.

They are not accepting any new people at this time.
