Joining another dead in hopkins county as healthcare workers struggle to keep the infection out of their nursing homes in the bluegrass.

"we do also have two nursing homes that are now involved.

That's a very serious thing.

Our at most risk individuals are those 65 and over."

And keep their hospitals from being overrun.

Some of our healthcare facilities are at critical need.

It is hard to keep healthcare workers who were exposed early on.

We are really in a critical need on our curve, and we need people to stay home.

Those outside the medical field are working hard as well my coworker?

We're sanitizing, we're spraying down our pumps.

We're trying to keep it as safe as possible for everyone who comes in.

Experts unveil a new tool to help.

How doctors are reducing the demand for ventillators.

But first?

Let's check in with chief meteorologis t cameron hopman?

With your 44forecast.

Cam?

One of the leaders guiding us through this unprecedente d health crisis is kentucky governor andy beshear.

He's received national praise for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The governor's*calming presence is helping the state cope with these uncertain times.

Governor beshear is joining us from frankfort.

Governor?

Thank you so much for talking with us.

Beshear?

"thank you.

We are going to get through this together."

1.

Your daily updates?

Now affectionatel y deemed "afternoons with andy" by some.

Governor?

Through those talks you've taken early and swift action to curb the virus?

What do you think has been the key to kentucky's response?

Beshear "well, kentucky is doing better than other states, certainly in what we call flattening the curve.

That is a phrase that basically means that we are reducing the spread of the virus which is protecting people's lives.

Part of it is, we took swift action.

I declared a state of emergency on our very first positive test.

The real heroes out there are all of your viewers out there that are watching that have followed the guidance, that have stayed home, that have reduced their contacts.

Many of which have sacrificed their employment or their small business.

The reason that we are doing as well as we are, even though we are suffering loss, is because of the sacrifice of kentuckians all over this state.

I am so proud to be their governor."

2.

You assure us daily?

We will get through this together.

When we finally do?

Is there any indication as to what kind of financial hit the state will take??

You had plans to r?invest in education?

Pension?

And medicaid.?

Is that still possible?

Beshear?

"when i ran for governor, where i wanted to take this state is to increase educational opportunity and to increase opportunity for everyone out there.

Whether that was starting their own small business and expanding.

The coronavirus has changed everything for all of us.

One thing it has done, it has taken away all the divisions out there.

We are one united kentucky and hopefully we are one untied america against this coronavirus.

What we know is the very first thing that we have got to do is get through this.

The lives of so many people are on the line.

One of our models say the difference between strict and poor compliance with social distancing could be 11,000 people that we love and care about in this commonwealth.

We have to be resilient.

We have to make sure we take however much time it takes to defeat this adversary.

Remember, we are not talking about years.

We are talking about some part of months.

The greatest generation has to go with their adversary for years without knowing if they were going to win.

We know that we will get through this.

We have to be resilient to get through it.

Yes, it is going to have a significant affect.

It already has on our economy.

If we can defeat the coronavirus, we can rebuild this economy.

We are going to do it.

We are going to come out strong.

We are going to build a healthy, prosperous kentucky.

I know we can do it because i see what we are doing right now."

Governor?

It is good friday and this weekend many easter traditions will have to be set aside by families?

What is your message to kentuckians during what is normally a time of celebration?

Beshear?

"well, a happy good friday to everybody.

This is a special day and easter is an incredibly important day to my family.

My son was suppose to get baptized this sunday at his church.

Now he is going to have to wait.

Not being in church this sunday is a sacrifice that i appreciate everybody out there making.

But i think, not physically being in church is an act of faith that we are all showing, as well.

The two most important commandments in the gospel according to jesus were, love thy god with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.

Being physically in church this weekend would spread the virus to our neighbors.

It would put their lives in jeopardy.

So i believe we are living out the gospel and those commandments by what we are doing this year.

We are protecting each other.

So, to everybody out there, thank you for your sacrifice.

It is absolutely necessary.

You are protecting each other."

Governor?

Thank you for all you are doing to lead the bluegrass through this*trying time.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Beshear?

"i just want to say to everybody out there, remember our compassion and our kindness are going to help us get through this.

We all feel anxiety.

We all feel fear.

I do too.

But let's remember, everybody else out there is feeling it as well.

Our job, whether it is in state government or everybody else, is to do the best we can everyday to not spread this virus and to stay physically, emotionally, and intellectually healthy.

Make sure when you see people, ask them how they are doing.

The truth is none of us are doing great.

All of us are struggling in different periods of time.

But we are struggling together.

One commonwealth together, doing our duty to beat this coronavirus.

We are going to do it together."

Such a honest answer there?

We are all doing okay.

Governor thank you again for your time.

We certainly appreciate it.

Beshear?

"thank you" we felt some pleasant weather across the tr?state tonight?

And we're keeping an eye on your easter weekend.

Here's chief meteorologis t cameron hopman with your 44forecast.

With ventilators in short supply?
