With coronavirus still top of mind for most, hospital representatives across the country are reporting worries that many people with non-virus related medical emergencies may not be seeking the help they need.

Several hospitals in our area are now working to get the message out: that delaying a diagnosis can lead to serious health problems. reps for shasta regional, mercy medical center and enloe medical center - all say they have systems in place to screen incoming patients and to isolate those who may have the coronavirus.

Even so... hospital workers say they understand some patients may simple be afraid to come in.

Emergency room nurse - "and unfortunately the hard part of that is that we're seeing patients who are sicker than they should be.

Because they were afraid to come.

So they waited until it was kind of scary."

Mercy repreentatives say all respiratory patients are treated in separated areas and do not come into contact with any other patients.
