U.S. Drops Criminal Case Against Michael Flynn On May 7, the United States Justice Department announced their decision to drop the criminal case against Michael Flynn, former national security advisor to Donald Trump.

Flynn was accused of and initially pled guilty to lying about his conversation with the Russian ambassador to the FBI in a 2017 interview.

His was one of the first Trump aides to plead guilty and cooperate with Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

However, in recent months Flynn had been attempting to withdraw his plea and challenge the prosecution’s case.

According to court documents, the Justice Department has now decided that Flynn’s initial conversation with the Russian ambassador was “entirely appropriate.” This makes his 2017 interview with the FBI inadmissible.
