Prices crashed to Rs 70/kg from Rs 1000: Madurai Jasmine flower sellers incurring losses amid lockdown

The sellers of world famous 'Madurai Malli' (Jasmine Flower) are incurring losses due to coronavirus lockdown.

Farmers and traders are suffering as there are fewer buyers in Mattuthavani flower market.

The price of jasmine flower has reduced to Rs 70-80 per kg from Rs 1000 per kg.

Earlier, the flower market of Madurai was located in Mattuthavani market area.

Now, it has been shifted to Arapalayam Bus Station due to coronavirus.

While speaking to ANI, one of the flower sellers said, "Produce is not able to reach market.

The price of flower has been reduced to Rs 70-80 per kg from Rs 1000 per kg.

Unsold produce goes into waste." There are 14,753 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases are 69,597 and 3720 deaths in India.
