After Dr. pack started having symptoms he took a COVID-19 test and to his surprise, it came back positive.

While people on the front lines are use to treating their patients who have the virus, they aren't as used to having it themselves.
I talked with a franciscan health physician who had the disease and has now recovered.
Kirk pack is a hospitalist at franciscan health in lafayette.
In mid march he began having symptoms of covid-19 after treating suspected coronaviurs patients in the icu.
"we use all the proper ppe as best we can but there is always that risk."
After dr. pack started having symptoms he took a covid-19 test and to his surprise it came back positive.
"having covid-19 was scary and having a virus that is causing a global pandemic of course is scary and now i know what my patients go through and i think i have a deeper understanding of what they go through."
Once dr. pack tested positive he quarantined from his family..
Eventually..he had to be admitted to the hospital.
"when i got sick enough to be admitted to the hospital i was pretty worried and pretty scared.
I've got a wife and two young children.
I ad already been quarantined from them for two weeks at that time."
Dr. pack spent two days in the hospital and it took him about three weeks to test negative for the virus.
"i wasn't able to work because i was sick and being quarantined of course it's difficult you know to be away from your family for that long especially when your are feeling vulnerable and you feeling sick like that."
He hopes by sharing his story he can inspire his patients..
And others who have been diagnosed with covid-19.
"there is light at the end of the tunnel and there is hope there are people that recover."
Dr. pack is now back to treating covid-19 patients in the icu at fransiscan health.
He says he can relate to them on a personal level now since he went through what they are going through now.
