Central City Park may soon get a new name, honoring the Cherry Blossom Festival founder — Carolyn Crayton.

Baldwin county has 348 reported cases.

And hancock county has 196 cases.

Central city park may be getting a new name, to honor the found of the cherry blossom festival - carolyn crayton.

41nbc's tanya modersitzki has more on why commissioners are choosing central city park.

Cherry blossom festival founder, carolyn crayton, is speechless after hearing central city park maybe renamed after her.

"i never did anything alone all of you have helped me."

For more than 40 years, macon has been home to the international cherry blossom festival.

The festival brings in people from all over the world and millions of dollars to the community.

Macon bibb commissioners say, it's only right to rename the park: carolyn crayton park.

"made us an international festival here festival events take place at central city park we dont want to name it cherry blossom we want to name it carolyn crayton park."

Commissioners originally wanted to name the park after crayton, before finding out it was named in 1914.

But commissioners say it only makes sense to rename central city park, because that's where most of it is held.

Commissioner virgil watkins is worried renaming the park might step on other events' toes.

"just caution how we name it."

Either way, crayton is humbly honored to have the name change be considered.

"i love every minute of macon i love everybody and i just love macon its just been a joy to get to know people and love them i feel like i have so many c1 3 b13 wonderful dear friends."
