In our top story at 11... a solemn 8th night of protests underway in downtown lexington... today would have been the 27th birthday of e-m-t breonna taylor...who was shot and killed by police in louisville in march during a no knock search warrant.

Abc 36's bobbi mcswine joins us live now from downtown lexington.

And bobbi, demonstrators say their spirit for racial justice, has not been defeated.

Not too long ago...several protestors gave testimonies of abuse of power by police.

One of the organizers says they were illegally searched...a few people said they're homes were raided without a warrant...one teacher also talked about over policing in schools, also known as the school to prison pipeline.

At the beginning of tonight's protest the sang happy birthday to breonna taylor.

Something else new...a white ally got up to speak and said other allies don't have the right to voice their disagreement with organizers in how the protest should go.

He said if an ally is uncomfortable... then they should simply not participate...not try to take over.

There also seemed to be some verbal disagreement with an organizer and wilson...a young protestor who was recently released from jail.

She said some of the same things i told you last night...calling wilson inexperienced and people should not follow him.

But it seemed like some people were defending wilson.

The crowd also learned some new chants before heading to the streets...and while outside the police department they chanted "who do you protect, who do you serve?"

They also talked through their demands.

I spoke with two young protestors...one of them says her father is a police officer...but he's a black man first...and he's in the position to try and dismantle oppressive systems. l3: top story white christian gatewood damyia thomas downtown lexington "i think that we have a long way to go but now is the turning point."

Butted "i think for lexington this is huge that we've been able to have these peaceful protests and that we have the chief out here listening to us.

I think this is a really good step for us and the rest of the world will follow suit."

Organizers say there will be a protest tomorrow at 1pm for a richmond man who was arrested...they read a statement from the family thanking protestors for the support.

At first streets weren't clear for protestors as they normally are...but as of now they have the green light.

Cars lined...the parking lot at rupp arena..

With the words of happy birthday breonna, black lives matter, and no justice no peace written on car windows.

The caravan started around 5:30 and circled around rupp... eight times.... symbolizing the number of times breonna taylor was shot in her home.

Latoi mayo... a louisville- native...says police also once busted in her family's home... my cousins were between the ages of 8 and 12 when this happened to them in louisville.

Fortunately, no one was killed, but basically this is a same old story that continues to impact our communities every day.
